Pro Football Focus has strong take on WR Squirrel White’s decision to leave Tennessee for Florida State

Wide receiver Squirrel White spent the first three seasons of his college career with the Tennessee Vols before entering the NCAA transfer portal.
White, a former three-star recruit from Alabama, transferred to Florida State following the 2024 season.
In three seasons at Tennessee, White caught 131 passes for 1,665 yards and six touchdowns. His best season on Rocky Top came in 2023 when he caught 67 passes for 803 yards and two touchdowns.
White’s lone season at Florida State wasn’t nearly as productive as he finished 2025 with just five receptions for 52 yards in 10 games.
Pro Football Focus lists Squirrel White as a wide receiver that didn’t help his NFL draft stock by transferring
Pro Football Focus detailed this week some of the wide receivers that either helped or hurt their NFL draft stock by transferring.
White was listed by PFF as one of the players that hurt his draft stock.
PFF’s Lauren Gray noted that White dealt with some injuries at Florida State.
“In his 2023 breakout season, he caught 68 passes for 802 yards and two touchdowns,” wrote Gray. “White gained 33 first downs, recorded 14 explosive gains and averaged 6.8 yards after the catch per reception. He also forced 10 missed tackles and averaged 2.11 yards per route run. White earned a 70.8 PFF receiving grade that season, the second highest of his career (79.0 in 2022). Injuries then limited White, who finished 2025 with five catches for 52 yards while battling multiple ailments.”
Interestingly, Gray noted that White ranks seventh all-time in career receptions at Tennessee.
It’s unclear exactly what injuries White dealt with last season, but he revealed last spring that he had a PCL sprain while at Tennessee.
“I’ve been able to get more work (during spring practice) coming off a PCL sprain,” said White. “Just getting out there and doing as much as I can with limited reps.”
“It’s something I was dealing with, before I got here, at Tennessee,” added White.
The grass isn’t always greener when it comes to the transfer portal. I don’t know what all went into White’s decision from a personal standpoint. Football wise, though, it clearly wasn’t the best decision for the former Vol.
