Tennessee Vols Iamaleava

The Tennessee Vols landed one of the biggest recruits in the 2023 recruiting class earlier this spring when five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava committed to UT.

Iamaleava is a gifted quarterback who is rated as the No. 6 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class.

Tennessee is obviously hoping that Iamaleava can be a transcendent quarterback who leads the Vols to a national championship.

So what is it that makes Iamaleava special? Why do fans feel like he's the player who can help Tennessee return to its former glory?

A recent scouting report from 247Sports recruiting analyst Greg Biggins details five reasons why Iamaleava is primed for success in the SEC.

Here are the five reasons, along with Biggins' comments below.

1. Can make all the throws

"There is not a throw on the field he can’t make, he’s comfortable throwing off-platform or being creative when he needs to be."

2. Accuracy

"He always had a big arm but can now change speeds, go through progressions and make accurate touch throws down the field look easy."

3. Toughness

“He’s a tough kid as well who will stand in and take a shot and when he’s running in the open field, he looks more like a big receiver than a signal-caller."

4. Leadership abilities

"He’s a natural leader with a high compete level and a great off the field work ethic…There are zero character concerns with him and he’s a future captain who other players gravitate towards."

5. Ability to escape the pocket and run

"He has exceptional escapability and is just as dangerous outside the pocket as he is throwing in it. He’s always a threat to take off and run for big yards when flushed or on designed running plays."

What more could you ask for in a quarterback? Big arm, great character, incredible leader, ability to run, and toughness. That's all the ingredients for an elite SEC quarterback.

There's no such thing as a can't miss prospect. And I wouldn't call Nico a can't miss player. But he's as close as you can get to a sure thing, which should have Vols fans excited for 2023 and beyond.
