Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney thinks the Tennessee Vols are going to be "really tough to beat" for a key in-state four-star recruit.
2026 four-star wide receiver Joel Wyatt, 6-foot-4/195 lbs from Bell Buckle, TN, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 5 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Tennessee. He's also rated as the No. 42 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class (which means he's close to being a five-star recruit).
Gorney noted this week that the Vanderbilt Commodores are making a "significant push" for Wyatt, but Tennessee is still viewed as the team to beat for the elite recruit.
"Vanderbilt could be making a significant push for Wyatt, especially after in-state four-star defensive back Caden Harris committed to the Commodores in recent days," wrote Gorney. "It could also help that the Bell Buckle, Tenn., four-star standout lives less than an hour away from Nashville. But Tennessee is still the team to beat and as things settle, the Vols could be really tough to beat."
Wyatt will take an official visit to Tennessee later this summer (he also has official visits scheduled for North Carolina, LSU, Vanderbilt, and Georgia).
This battle is still ongoing, but it feels like it's only a matter of time before Tennessee earns a commitment from Wyatt.
