The Tennessee Vols are in the midst of a high profile recruiting battle with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
2025 five-star Vols commit David Sanders, the No. 1 offensive lineman in the nation, has been committed to Tennessee since August.
The Charlotte native, however, took a visit to Ohio State last weekend for the Buckeyes' win against the Indiana Hoosiers.
For now, Sanders remains committed to Tennessee, but there's a growing concern on Rocky Top that he could flip to Ohio State before the national signing period gets underway next month.
Tennessee and Ohio State fans will be watching closely this weekend to see if Sanders returns to Columbus for the Buckeyes' game against Michigan. If Sanders makes a second straight visit to Ohio State, then it'll give Tennessee plenty of reason to panic.
At the moment, Sanders' plans for the weekend are unclear. On3 recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong, however, said on Wednesday that it wouldn't be a surprise if Sanders visits Ohio State on Saturday.
Wiltfong made sure to point out that he's not reporting that Sanders will be in Columbus, just that a visit is being discussed.
"It was a huge surprise and development to see the On3 Industry’s No. 1 ranked offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. pop up in Columbus last weekend for Ohio State’s win over Indiana," wrote Wiltfong. "It would not be a surprise if he was back again for this game (against Michigan). That’s not confirmation he will be there, just saying it’s being discussed. Sanders has been committed to Tennessee since August. On3 is told that he and his family are taking the Thanksgiving holiday to also continue to talk about Sanders final decision."
If Sanders does take a visit to Ohio State this weekend, it doesn't mean a flip is imminent. But it will definitely mean that it's a strong possibility.
We should have a good idea early next week of how this recruiting battle will play out. Sanders is the top commit in Tennessee's 2025 recruiting class, which is why losing him to Ohio State would be devastating for the Vols.
