On3 national director of recruiting Chad Simmons thinks the Tennessee Vols are one of three teams that's best positioned to land 2025 five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr.

Sanders revealed his top six schools on Saturday and he included Tennessee along with Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, and South Carolina.

While six teams made Sanders' list of top schools, it's Clemson, Georgia, and Tennessee that are at the top of the list according to Simmons.

“I think the three schools that have really positioned themselves best heading into the spring are Clemson, Georgia, and Tennessee," noted Simmons this week

“I think right now it’s a pretty tight race between those three. This is about more than football for Sanders," added Simmons. "It’s very much about the fit, the personality and the culture, finding somewhere that he feels at home and somewhere his parents feel best about him going as a player and a young man.”

Simmons pointed out that 2025 five-star quarterback George MacIntyre, who committed to Tennessee earlier this year, is the "X-factor" for the Vols. Simmons noted that MacIntyre and Sanders have developed a solid friendship, which will be factor in Sanders' eventual decision.

Sanders, 6-foot-6/270 lbs from Charlotte, NC, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina and the No. 1 offensive tackle in the nation. He's also rated as the No. 2 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.

Tennessee is poised to have an elite 2025 recruiting class with or without Sanders. If the Vols land Sanders, though, this could end up being a top five recruiting class for Tennessee.
