Report details the recruiting drama surrounding 4-star WR Legend Bey’s decision to flip from Ohio State to Tennessee
The Tennessee Vols got a huge recruiting win on Wednesday by flipping Legend Bey from Ohio State.
The Tennessee Vols pulled off a stunner on Wednesday afternoon by flipping 2026 four-star wide receiver Legend Bey from the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Bey originally committed to Tennessee in late June before flipping to Ohio State in November.
The expectation going into Wednesday (the first day of the signing period) was that Bey would stick with the Buckeyes, despite a late push from the Vols.
One factor that likely influenced Bey’s decision was Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline’s decision to become the new head coach at USF on Wednesday.
But that wasn’t the only thing that reportedly influenced Bey’s decision.
Report details the recruiting drama surrounding Vols signee Legend Bey
According to 247Sports’ Mike Roach, Bey’s mother wouldn’t sign off on his national letter of intent with the Buckeyes on Wednesday.
“A source near Bey said that he intends to sign with Ohio State this morning, but because his mother wouldn’t sign off, the Buckeyes will need to wait until Bey turns 18 years old to accept it through compliance,” reported Roach a couple of hours before Bey flipped to Tennessee. “Bey’s birthday is three weeks away, and the Buckeyes can announce his signing once that date arrives.”
Bey actually attended his high school’s signing ceremony on Wednesday, while wearing Ohio State gear, though he didn’t sign anything at the time.
There were reports on Tuesday that some folks in Bey’s circle were pushing for him to sign with Tennessee instead of Ohio State. It looks like those arguments won out.
Bey, 5-foot-180 pounds from Forney, TX, is rated by Rivals as the No. 4 athlete in the nation and the No. 19 player in the state of Texas.
Update:
Mike Roach of 247Sports dropped even more details of the behind-the-scenes decision-making that went down between Bey and his mother on Wednesday, which you can check out here.
