News broke last week that Marshall Manning, the teenage son of former Tennessee Vols quarterback Peyton Manning, is transferring to The Baylor School in Chattanooga.
Marshall, who has grown up in Denver, will be an eighth grade student at The Baylor School this fall (which means he'll be a class of 2030 recruit).
Peyton's son is expected to be a highly-touted recruit, and every major program in the nation will likely be interested in the young quarterback.
Tennessee will be viewed as one of the early favorites for Marshall.
It's far from a certainty, though, that Marshall will commit to the Vols. There's a long way to go before he makes that decision. Marshall will almost certainly take trips to numerous programs before making the decision that's best for him. And based on the way the Manning family has done things in the past (allowing their kids to make their own decisions without pressure), there's at least a decent chance that Tennessee isn't the pick for Marshall.
Interestingly, the head football coach at The Baylor School, Erik Kimrey, has a strong connection to one of Tennessee's SEC rivals.
Kimrey, who has been the head coach at The Baylor School since 2022, played college football for the South Carolina Gamecocks from 1998 to 2002. He also recently served as the tight ends coach at South Carolina (in 2021).
I don't know how much of an impact Kimrey will have on Marshall's recruitment (if he has any at all). But it's still notable that one of the coaches who will be spending a lot of time around Peyton's son over the next few years is a former South Carolina quarterback.
