SEC team says Tennessee Vols cornerback Colton Hood is the best defensive back they’ve seen in 2025
The Tennessee Vols made one of the best transfer additions of the offseason by landing cornerback Colton Hood from Colorado
Former NFL offensive lineman Blake Brockermeyer ranked the top 150 players in college football so far this season for CBS Sports this week.
Brockermeyer, a former Texas Longhorns standout, ranked Tennessee Vols cornerback Colton Hood at No. 31.
Hood was the highest ranked Vol on Brockermeyer’s list.
An SEC team told Blake Brockermeyer that Tennessee Vols CB Colton Hood is the best defensive back they’ve seen this season
One SEC team that’s already played Tennessee told Brockermeyer that Hood is the best defensive back they’ve seen so far this season.
“Hood is very sticky in coverage and does an excellent job of tracking the ball in the air to break up passes. Underrated in run support, he shows rare physicality,” noted Brockermeyer. “One SEC team told me he was the best defensive back they’ve seen this season.”
It’s not a surprise to hear that comment, as Hood has quickly put himself into the first-round NFL draft conversation.
As for which team might have made that comment?
Tennessee has played three SEC teams so far this season — Missouri, Georgia, and Arkansas.
Hood’s highest graded SEC game (per Pro Football Focus) came against Mississippi State.
That doesn’t mean that someone at Mississippi State for sure made the comment about Hood, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if that’s where it came from (Mississippi State only passed for 175 yards against Tennessee).
Regardless of where the comment came from, one thing is certain — the Vols found a stud in Hood this past spring.
