Tennessee Vols legend Peyton Manning was asked this past summer who he would root for if his nephew, Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning, ever plays the Volunteers.

“I haven’t gotten that far,” said Peyton to The Sporting News’ Bill Bender. “I pull hard for my Tennessee Volunteers every single week, but I’ll be pulling hard for my nephew this year.”

Texas is scheduled to visit Neyland Stadium in 2026 for a matchup against Tennessee.

For now, we assume that Arch will be the Longhorns’ quarterback next season when Texas takes on the Vols.

But what if Arch is wearing Tennessee orange instead of Texas orange next fall?

Social media is abuzz with transfer talk about Arch Manning and the Tennessee Vols

Arch has gotten off to a shaky start this season at Texas. The Longhorns are 3-2 so far, with losses to the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Florida Gators.

In the loss to Florida, Arch threw two interceptions and was sacked six times. It was a rough game for the former five-star recruit, as he often looked unsure of himself, resulting in a couple of instances where the New Orleans native held on to the ball too long.

Arch’s uneven start to the season has some fans wondering if he’s the best option for Texas right now. It also has fans wondering if a transfer could be in the works after the season.

Several social media users have suggested that Arch should consider transferring to Tennessee to play for Josh Heupel in 2026.

Those suggestions have led to quite a debate on social media platforms.

The idea of Peyton’s nephew playing for the Vols is a fun thought, but I seriously doubt it happens.

I mean, you never say never in college football. A year ago, I never would’ve thought that the Appalachian State quarterback (Joey Aguilar) would transfer to UCLA and then to Tennessee because Nico Iamaleava decided to leave Tennessee for UCLA in the middle of spring practice. This sport is as unpredictable as ever, so no scenario, no matter how outlandish, can be ruled out.

But I tend to think Arch will stick it out at Texas. And if he were to transfer, I don’t think Tennessee would be the top option. That’s in part because Arch’s struggles this season are similar to Nico’s struggles at Tennessee in 2024. Nico struggled with the pressure and the weight of expectations as a former five-star recruit with a lucrative NIL deal. Arch’s situation is slightly different, but the hype and the expectations are similar. And that would only be magnified if he left Texas for Tennessee.

Plus, who knows what’ll happen with Arch the rest of the season? Maybe he finds his groove and takes off in the second half, making his slow start a distant memory.

Either way, I’m eager to see how it unfolds for Arch. But if it goes south, I don’t think it means he’ll be heading east to Tennessee.

Why Peyton Manning’s preseason advice to Tennessee QB Joey Aguilar could have helped Texas QB Arch Manning against Florida

Peyton Manning shared some advice before the start of the 2025 season with Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar that he probably should’ve shared with his nephew, Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning, too. Arch had a tough game on Saturday in the Longhorns’ 29-21 loss to the Florida Gators in Gainesville. The former five-star recruit threw […]
