The South Carolina Gamecocks could be in danger of losing a key commit to the Tennessee Vols.

According to On3, 2024 four-star tight end Michael Smith, a South Carolina commit since last January, will visit Tennessee on November 18 for the Vols' game against the Georgia Bulldogs.

On3 also noted that Smith will visit Auburn on November 25.

"His commitment (to South Carolina) does not look to be as strong as it was at one time," wrote On3's Chad Simmons this week.

Smith, 6-foot-4/235 lbs from Savannah, GA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 5 tight end in the nation and the No. 9 player in the state of Georgia. He's also rated as the No. 62 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

While Auburn is also in the mix for Smith, it's the Vols that stand the best chance of stealing the talented tight end from South Carolina.

That's in large part because Smith is teammates at Calvary Day School with 2024 four-star Vols QB commit Jake Merklinger.

Merklinger, the No. 8 overall quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class, has been committed to Tennessee since March.

South Carolina is struggling in Shane Beamer's third season as the program's head coach. The Gamecocks are 3-6 through nine games and they just snapped a four game skid by narrowly beating Jacksonville State in Columbia.

It's not a surprise that some of South Carolina's commits are getting a wandering eye as the early signing period approaches.
