South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley made a powerful statement about Lady Vols head coach on Monday night after the Gamecocks' 70-63 win against Tennessee.
Caldwell returned to the court on Monday night just seven days after giving birth to her son Conor.
After the game, Staley spoke on Caldwell, who received a standing ovation from Tennessee fans, returning to action just a week after going through labor.
"Women have the strength of 10 men, no doubt about it," said Staley. "I think she's very passionate about her team and coaching here. I think she's got them off to a great start, a very exciting brand of basketball. And when you have a coach that really wants to hang another banner, it comes as a sacrifice. She's probably a better woman than me. I don't know if I could be detached from my little one for that long. She's got great help and she wanted to be here with her team.
"So, I mean, women have to make decisions like that and when they do, I feel like other women should honor them and let them know that we see you. We feel you. We hear you. And I congratulated her. It's going to take a lot of people to have that work/life balance that's needed when you have a newborn child."
The Lady Vols are in good hands with Caldwell leading the program. Not only has she quickly proven to be a great coach, but she's obviously a tremendously strong person as well.
Of all the accomplishments we will see in sports this year, Caldwell returning to the court just seven days after giving birth may be the most incredible.
