The Tennessee Volunteers topped the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 11-5 in a winner-take-all game on Monday night in Knoxville to advance to the Super Regionals for the fifth straight time.

The fireworks came in the fourth inning, when the Vols put up a seven spot on the strength of home runs by Manny Marin and Andrew Fischer.

And those weren't the only memorable moments of the inning.  Wake Forest head coach Tom Walter was caught on camera right hurling some derogatory words at Fischer right before he went yard to put the Vols up 8-2.

It appeared as though Walter blurted out the "f" word followed by a slur that's derogatory to the LGBTQ community, but Walter was not asked about not addressed the comment after the game.

However, Wake Forest athletics issued a statement on Monday morning condemning Walter's comments and apologizing.  The statement was issued on behalf of former Tennessee and current Wake Forest athletic director John Currie and Walter.

"I feel badly for those most hurt by such words," was what Currie wrote, which seems to confirm what many had mused about the utterance on the ESPN+ broadcast on Monday night.

Walter did not apologize to those he might have offended, but rather to the University of Tennessee, Wake Forest, the SEC, and the ACC.  Walter claims that "while I do not remember the specific moment clearly, that language doesn't reflect my values or the standards of this program."

It appears as though Wake Forest has made their decision and are moving on.  Tennessee is moving on as well – to the Super Regionals.  And that's thanks in large part to Fischer's reaction to the entire situation – a two-run home run and a wild celebration around the base paths that Vol fans aren't going to forget any time soon.
