Better late than never, although it was too late for the liking of many Tennessee baseball fans.

The popular college baseball media outlet D1 Baseball finally gave the Tennessee Vols their due on Monday morning, putting the Vols at number one weeks after the other polls had.  The Vols "inched ahead" of LSU in their latest poll, which is considered one of the primary polls along with Baseball America and the Coaches Poll.

It had been a running thing for weeks where the Vols were behind LSU in D1 Baseball's rankings, and one of the site's owners and contributors – Kendall Rogers – had been getting bombarded by Tennessee fans for the perceived slight of the Vols in his outlet's poll.

The latest came after acknowledging the likely change after Tennessee's 7-4 win over Florida on Sunday.

Those are civil tweets at Rogers compared to a number of others over the last couple of weeks.

On one hand, it's understandable why Tennessee fans were irked, particularly as defending national champions. The Vols picked up a pair of solid wins a couple of weeks ago in Houston against Arizona and Oklahoma State.  And they've just mashed the baseball no matter who they've played or where they've gone. Not getting the benefit of the doubt after all of that seems a bit harsh from any outlet.

But Tennessee left no doubt over the weekend against the then-#7 Florida Gators, sweeping their rival. Tennessee run ruled the Gators on Saturday 10-0 with a 9-run 7th inning and erased a 4-1 deficit on Sunday to win going away 7-4.  Meanwhile, LSU also earned a sweep to open SEC play, but it was against 8-11 Missouri.

It's early, and Tennessee and LSU will get to battle it out for superiority when they meet in late April in Baton Rouge.  But for now, Tennessee fans on the internet have no reason to take aim at one particular media member any longer.
