Tennessee Vols fans will get a chance to see former UT quarterback Hendon Hooker in action for the Detroit Lions to kick off the 2025 NFL preseason.

The NFL announced on Wednesday that the Lions will take on the Los Angeles Chargers in the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame game on July 31 in Canton, OH.

Hooker, who will be battling for the Lions' backup quarterback job during training camp, will almost certainly see extended action against the Chargers.

The former Vol is hoping to beat out journeyman quarterback Kyle Allen for the No. 2 quarterback job this summer. Detroit signed Allen earlier this offseason.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Lions released quarterback Jake Fromm.

Hooker, a third round selection by the Lions in the 2023 NFL Draft, appeared in three games for the Lions in 2024, completing six-of-nine passes for nine yards. He also rushed for two yards.
