Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel confirmed that a key player will remain out this week for UT's game against the UConn Huskies.

Heupel was asked on Monday about the status of linebacker Keenan Pili. The third-year head coach noted that Pili won't be ready go to for the game against UConn on Saturday.

"Keenan is not ready to go in this one, so we will continue to monitor his progress and his ability to get back on the field here late in the year," said Heupel. "Keenan has a lot of good football ahead of him. He will have to make a decision on what's best for him and his family."

Pili transferred to Tennessee from BYU after the 2022 season.

The Nevada native had a strong debut for the Vols, totaling four tackles in Tennessee's win against Virginia. Perhaps more important than the number of tackles was the way that Pili appeared to be in control of what was happening defensively on the field for the Vols. The BYU transfer was seemingly always in the right place and looked like he was a strong communicator.

Unfortunately for Pili and the Vols, that's the only game action that the redshirt senior linebacker has seen this season as he sustained a significant injury against the Cavaliers.
