It appears as though you can put EA Sports in the column of those who believe Tennessee Vols cornerback Jermod McCoy will bounce back in 2025 from a tough break.

The popular video game producer put out its list on Tuesday of its top-rated defensive players, and McCoy checked as the #5 defensive player with a 94 overall rating.  He was also listed as the top-ranked cornerback in the nation.

For McCoy, who suffered a torn ACL during workouts in January, earning respect isn't something out of left field despite his circumstances.  The Vols' star defender has been getting a lot of love recently as a potential first round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

However, it's impossible to know exactly when he will be back – both physically able to play and also returning to the elite level that he exhibited during a strong 2024 season for the Vols' defense.

McCoy was arguably the best cornerback in the SEC in 2024, as he posted a Pro Football Focus defensive mark of 87.0 with an 89.6 coverage mark.  He also earned a 78.8 run defense grade with only a 7.0% missed tackle rate.  He allowed a 50% catch rate (31 catches on 62 targets) and an opposing QB rating of 53.6 when he was targeted.

As such, with that level of production, it's not hard to understand why McCoy is getting a load of respect from EA Sports.  Vol fans just hope that high level translates to the actual field this fall.

We'll get a better idea during fall camp, based on the nature of the activities he's cleared to participate in, how soon we can expect to see him on the field on Saturdays.
