Two former Tennessee Volunteers are in very different spots on the Dallas Cowboys’ depth chart as America’s Team gets its 2025 preseason slate underway this weekend in Southern California.

TE Princeton Fant sits in the fifth tight end slot on the depth chart, behind Jake Ferguson, Luke Schoonmaker, Brevyn Spann-Ford, and John Stephens. That is not an unfamiliar position for Fant, as that’s where he came in last year when the Cowboys made their final cuts to get to their 53-man roster. Fant just missed out, but he was signed to the team’s practice squad.

Now, he’s in a spot to where a strong preseason could perhaps push him up into a position to make the cut this time around. And this time, he’ll have someone throwing passes to him that he’s very familiar with in former Tennessee Vols teammate Joe Milton III, who he played with from 2021-22.

Milton has turned heads thus far in camp, hitting on a number of big plays throughout camp that have oohed and ahhed those observing, both fans and media alike. Milton and Fant have also been connecting regularly in team drills.

Milton had a bit of a scare this week after hitting his hand off a helmet, but he’s been cleared and should be good to play on Saturday as the team’s primary backup quarterback behind Dak Prescott. That means the former Vols will break the huddle together again in a game setting for the first time since they left Knoxville.

We’ll see if Milton can help his former teammate take that next step with the Cowboys this month, starting on Saturday night at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA.
