It appears as though the Iamaleava family could be about to deal with a very prominent name following the transfer of both Nico and Madden from Tennessee and Arkansas earlier this month.
According to CBS Sports national college football reporter Brandon Marcello, an Arkansas NIL collective has hired sports law attorney Tom Mars to attempt to enforce a buyout clause against Madden for around $200,000 in the wake of his transfer from Arkansas to UCLA.
Mars' defense of the Arkansas collective is not too much of a surprise after the comments he made last week basically calling the Iamaleava brothers to the carpet for leaving in the manner they did.
If Tennessee fans might think the name Mars sounds familiar, well, that's because he represented the Spyre Sports Group back when the NCAA was seeking to penalize Tennessee back in January 2024 for its recruitment of Nico, right before the lawsuit by Tennessee and Virginia against the NCAA turned the collegiate sports landscape completely on its head.
Mars previously issued the following statement on Twitter/X in support of the NIL agreement between Spyre and Nico:
Mars, an Arkansas resident, was a part of helping defend the first major challenge to an NIL deal in the new money-driven (at least publicly) college football world. Now, it seems he's going to be a big part of things on the other end – enforcing legal obligations owed by the players when they choose to move on.
It's a big move by the Arkansas NIL, identified by Marcello as Blueprint Sports, one that will have lasting repercussions on players, NIL agreements, and recruiting for years to come depending on the final resolution of the dispute.
And it's one that some Tennessee fans won't mind seeing potentially coming at the expense of the Iamaleava family.
