Tennessee football has an exciting defender in its 2024 recruiting class in Bradley Central's Boo Carter. After Friday night, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel might be thinking about getting him involved in his offense quickly when he comes to Knoxville.
Carter had a sensational highlight reel touchdown in Bradley Central's game on Friday night against traditional powerhouse Maryville. Carter took a quick swing pass and weaved his way through the Maryville defense across the field for a dazzling touchdown.
The plan for Carter, a consensus four-star recruit who committed to Tennessee back on June 17, has reportedly been to potentially play on both sides of the ball in Knoxville, but to start off learning the defensive side of the ball first. Carter's HUDL page lists his positions as running back and cornerback.
Carter's two-way ability has been noted by most of the recruiting services, as he's listed by most in the athlete category, which typically means a player can or does play multiple positions and/or on both sides of the ball. All of Rivals, 247Sports, and On3 have him as an athlete. Rivals ranks him the highest as the #1 player in the state of Tennessee, the #3 athlete in the nation, and the #52 overall recruit in the nation.
Carter should be able to come in and quickly provide an athletic presence in the Vols' secondary when he arrives. However, it's obvious that he possesses incredible vision and a special playmaking talent. As such, Carter eventually might not find himself on the sideline very much at Neyland Stadium.
