The Tennessee Volunteers were expected to make an addition to their 2026 recruiting class in the near future.  That near future turned out to be on Tuesday.

Josh Heupel secured the commitment of 2026 edge rusher CJ Edwards, per Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

Edwards, a 6'5", 215 pound edge from Metuchen, New Jersey (Saint Joseph), is someone that hasn't gotten a lot of run nationally.  A three-star prospect, he's ranked as the #46 edge and #9 player in the state of New Jersey by On3 Sports.

However, he has the length that schools look for in a pass rusher at 6'5", and at 215 pounds he has a lot of room to grow into a bigger and more powerful frame.  He held offers from several other Power Four schools, including Michigan, North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Syracuse, Boston College, Minnesota, Pitt, and West Virginia.

Edwards becomes the first edge rusher in Heupel's 2026 class, joining three-star defensive lineman Tyson Bacon as the only defensive linemen currently committed in the class.  The class ranks 9th nationally in On3 Sports' most recent rankings.
