The Georgia Bulldogs haven't been strangers to the NFL during head coach Kirby Smart's tenure, and more will join the league in droves in April when the NFL Draft gets underway in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Among them will be Georgia IOL Jared Wilson, who met with the media on Saturday at the NFL Combine. He was asked who he believes are the top three offensive linemen in the NFL as far as tackle, guard, and center.
His best guard? Former Tennessee Vol and current Kansas City Chief Trey Smith.
"Guard? I love Trey Smith. His aggressiveness, the way he plays the game."
It's interesting hearing players call out Smith as the best at his position, particularly after the news came down last week that the Chiefs are putting the franchise tag on Smith, who was set to become a free agent. Many pundits had Smith as the top free agent offensive linemen available, as well as one of the top overall players available in free agency. It appears that opinion isn't shared just by media, scouts, and front offices, but also to college players molding their game after guys in the league.
Smith, who was a sixth-round draft pick by the Chiefs in the 2021 NFL Draft, has missed one game over his four-year career, appearing in three Super Bowls and winning two of them. He made was named to his first Pro Bowl last season.
As for Wilson, who played center at Georgia, he projects a day two or early day three pick by most draft pundits next month. Unless he's taken to play guard, it's not likely he'll join Smith and center Creed Humphrey – whom he identified as his top center in the NFL – in Kansas City.
Regardless, it seems like Wilson will still have his eye on the former Vol as he works to improve as a professional.
