The Tennessee Vols aren’t backing down in a key offseason battle against the Texas Longhorns.

2027 five-star wide receiver Easton Royal has been committed to Texas since late November, but he hasn’t exactly shut his recruitment down.

Royal, 5-11, 185 pounds from New Orleans, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 3 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 12 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. He’s also rated as the top player in the state of Louisiana.

The five-star recruit is set to visit the Florida Gators this weekend. Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, Miami, and Ohio State are in line to potentially receive official visits from Royal later this spring.

Tennessee has been particularly aggressive in their pursuit of the talented wide receiver.

The Vols refuse to stop pursuing Easton Royal

On3’s Sam Spiegelman noted this week that Tennessee simply isn’t giving up in its attempt to flip Royal from Texas.

“Tennessee has refused to stop recruiting Royal,” wrote Spiegelman.

Royal told On3 that Tennessee has made him and his family feel like a priority.

“Tennessee has made not only me, but my family feel like a priority, too,” said Royal to On3. “Like Texas, they have an offense that fits my play style.”

On3’s Chad Simmons suggested earlier this month that Tennessee may actually be the biggest threat to swipe the five-star wide receiver from Texas.

“The Buckeyes could be one to watch. Florida was one of his early favorites less than a year ago, but Tennessee may be Texas’ top competition,” wrote Simmons. “The offense and Kelsey Pope have the Vols in play.”

Royal told On3 in December that he likes the way Tennessee’s offense utilizes wide receivers.

“I like their offense,” said Royal to On3 of his interest in the Vols. “They throw the ball and get it to their top receivers. I like what Coach (Kelsey) Pope does. They have been consistent with me.”

Tennessee’s had a lot of success in landing top wide receiver recruits in recent years (Mike Matthews, Braylon Staley, Radarious Jackson, Travis Smith, Tristen Keys, etc). It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Vols manage to flip Royal, but with LSU and others in the mix, it certainly won’t be easy.
