The Tennessee Vols have done a good job this offseason of keeping players from entering the NCAA transfer portal.

On Friday, however, the Vols lost a former three-star offensive lineman to the portal.

Redshirt sophomore James Robinson tweeted on Friday that he's leaving Tennessee.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Coach Heupel and his coaching staff for providing me the opportunity to be a student-athlete at (Tennessee)," tweeted Robinson. “Football has always been a big part of my life and I thank the Lord for the blessing me with the opportunity to play the game and compete at a high level."

Robinson signed with the Vols during the 2020 recruiting cycle as a three-star recruit out of Montgomery, AL. He was rated as the No. 31 rated player in the state of Alabama in the 2020 class.

The Alabama native didn't appear in any games for the Vols as a true freshman in 2020. Robinson, however, played in all 13 games for Tennessee in 2021, mostly on special teams, though he did see some action at guard as well.

While isn't a devastating loss for the program, it's not ideal, either. The Vols already have a thin roster and they certainly didn't want to lose any depth from along the offensive line.
