Tennessee received some transfer news on Sunday that will bring a smile to the face of new Vols defensive coordinator Jim Knowles
The Tennessee Vols are working hard to land one of the top defensive players in the transfer portal.
The Tennessee Vols received some positive transfer portal news on Sunday evening.
According to multiple reports, Penn State Nittany Lions transfer EDGE Chaz Coleman will be at Tennessee for a visit on Monday.
Coleman, a true freshman this past season, played under new Vols defensive coordinator Jim Knowles at Penn State.
Chaz Coleman is coming off a visit to LSU
There was some concern that Coleman may not make it to Tennessee after he took a visit to LSU on Saturday.
Coleman, who is one of the top-rated EDGE defenders in the portal, tweeted a photo of himself with LSU head coach Lane Kiffin that understandably caused some concern among Vols fans.
Coleman would be a good fit for the Vols given his previous experience in Knowles’ defense.
Knowles, by the way, spoke highly of Coleman last season at Penn State.
“He’s crazy athletic, explosive,” said Knowles of Coleman in August. “For a freshman, he plays really hard. Like he plays to the echo of the whistle, chases the ball all over the place. I call him the Chazmanian Devil.”
Knowles continued to be impressed by Coleman after the start of the 2025 season.
“He’s jumped off the screen from the time I first got to be around him, and he’s made plays in games,” said Knowles in September. “He’s just a really disruptive guy. I think his progress is going to have to come against teams that are heavier in the run game and more talented in the run game. We’re going to have to see how he can hold up in that because I think he can pass rush against anybody. His development is going to have to come in against a team that really tries to run the ball.”
Getting Coleman on campus is a huge step for the Vols in landing the talented EDGE transfer. We’ll see if Tennessee can close the deal over the next few days.
