Tennessee Vols '100% in the mix' with five star offensive line recruit as he nears his commitment

The Tennessee Vols and Josh Heupel continue to find success this offseason on the recruiting trail. They already have five star Georgie MacIntyre coming. They've landed commits from three other four star commits this spring. Five star offensive tackle David Sanders is firmly in the recruiting mix. And now they just took a critical step towards securing yet another five star offensive lineman.
Five star offensive line recruit Josh Petty was just on campus over the weekend and the visit was a reportedly a smashing success. As we discussed here at A to Z Sports earlier this week, Tennessee had made it into Petty's final five that he's considering. But now? The Vols might actually be favorites based on what Petty had to say.

When Petty met with Volquest near the end of his visit he had nothing but glowing things to say about Tennessee and their chances in landing him.
"They showed me what kind of priority I am and how special this school is, and where I can go, and what this school can do for me."
The coaching staff apparently absolutely killed it throughout the visit, in meetings, in the hospitality, in every way. Petty shared that with some schools, he left feeling like he had many questions. Not so with the Vols. More on this from Petty:
"[Tennessee] did a great job going in depth with meetings…and just letting me know how the program feels about me and how they'll develop me into a great talent."
Petty has been a long-time fan of the Vols ever since he was a kid, Tennessee always had an "in" with him, but the relationships with all the coaching staff continues to stand out as something that is a definite win any time Petty is interviewed:
"This [visit] really helped. My relationship has grown with these coaches. Growing up a Tennessee fan and going on this official visit has been special."

When he was asked about the idea of playing with (five star offensive tackle) David Sanders and (five star quarterback) George MacIntyre he was clearly very excited. David Sanders isn't a lock for the Vols, but MacIntyre has been committed for several months now.
Playing with talent…you can't beat that. A guy like George MacIntyre, that's a gunslinger. He's a great quarterback and he can really do it. And Dave [Sanders], that's an elite talent right there…he's doing special things and he's a special guy."
As Tennessee's class continues to attract more and more talent for 2025 recruits are beginning to see the potential with the Vols as a true contender in college football. And if Coach Heupel continues to win on the relational side with highly intelligent recruits like Josh Petty then fans can likely expect more and more wins on the recruiting trail.
Near the end of Petty's interview on his visit he was asked about where Tennessee stood in the pecking order (since many assumed Florida State was his favorite). This is what he had to say:
"100% Tennessee is in the mix. This was a great visit. Hospitality was unbelievable and I've had a great time."
Petty will apparently be targeting August for his official commitment announcement, which makes sense. He still has to visit Ohio State and Florida State in the coming weeks. Then he said he'll discuss things with his parents and consider all options before locking things in ahead of the fall. From the sound of it, the visit was incredible, the relationships are continuing to flourish, and Tennessee just took perhaps the most critical step towards sealing the deal with Josh Petty.
