2021 three-star athlete Nathaniel Wiggins recently heard from the Tennessee Vols out of nowhere.
The Georgia native told VolQuest that UT defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley reached out to him via Twitter to extend an offer.
Wiggins, 6-foot-2/175 lbs, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 32 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 37 athlete in the nation.
Wiggins currently holds offers from Georgia Tech, Louisville, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Virginia Tech, among several others.
The dynamic athlete, whose recruitment will likely pick up over the next couple of months, would be a perfect fit in Ansley and Jeremy Pruitt's defense.
Pruitt loves tall defensive backs. Wiggins, who plans to visit UT on February 1, plays on both sides of the ball, but his raw athleticism could land him on defense if he chooses Tennessee.
The Vols, under Pruitt, have displayed a tremendous ability to develop young defensive backs. Alontae Taylor signed as a wide receiver and made a smooth transition to defensive back (though he struggled at times as a sophomore). And safety Nigel Warrior showed an incredible amount of improvement during his senior season.
Right now, Tennessee has to be an attractive school for defensive back recruits — they know they're going to get developed and they have a decent chance to play early.
The Vols were wise to offer Wiggins early. I have a feeling he's going to be a highly sought after recruit that is soon elevated to four-star status.
