Tennessee Vols 2024 signee Mike Matthews, a five-star wide receiver from Georgia, is in Orlando this week, but he's not with his new UT teammates at the Citrus Bowl.
Instead, Matthews is participating in the Under Armour All-America Game.
And Matthews, who was in Knoxville for some Citrus Bowl practices last month, is showing off the skills that made him the No. 20 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.
The talented wide receiver made an impressive grab during Under Armour All-America Game practices on New Year's Eve, which drew rave reviews from various recruiting analysts.
That's four-star cornerback Jalyn Crawford, an Auburn signee, that was defending Matthews on that play.
"Matthews was able to hit top speed very quickly and had the look of a dangerous deep threat," noted On3's Charles Power. "The ability to get vertical against the cornerbacks on hand was readily apparent."
Power also pointed out that Matthews created some separation against five-star cornerback Ellis Robinson IV, the No. 1 cornerback in the 2024 recruiting class.
It would appear that the Vols have a future superstar on their hands in Mike Matthews.
Butch Jones is still trying to capitalize off his stint as Nick Saban’s ‘special assistant’ and it’s very cringe
Butch is still quite the opportunist
