The Tennessee Vols may have one of the most famous and notable people on the planet in their corner this weekend when they host the Georgia Bulldogs in a key early season showdown.

Cameron Sexton, the Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives, posted on social media this week that he traveled to the Vatican last week.

While he was there, Sexton presented Pope Leo XIV with a custom Tennessee Vols jersey.

Will Pope Leo XIV be rooting for the Volunteers?

It’s well known that Pope Leo XIV, who is from Chicago, is a Chicago White Sox fan. It’s unclear if he has any strong college football allegiances.

Pope Leo XIV attended Villanova, but it’s not like Villanova, which competes at the FCS level, is a football powerhouse.

Maybe Pope Leo XIV, like many fans of FCS teams, has an FBS team that he roots for. If he doesn’t, perhaps he’ll adopt Tennessee as his team now that he has a fancy custom Vols jersey in his possession.

The Vols haven’t won a game against Georgia since 2016. Maybe having the Pope in their corner will provide the divine intervention that Tennessee has been needing against the Bulldogs in recent years.
