2024 four-star cornerback Aaron Scott Jr revealed his top five schools this week and the Tennessee Vols made the cut.
Scott, 6-foot/170 lbs from Springfield, OH, also included Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, and Penn State in his top five.
The Ohio native is rated by 247Sports as the No. 3 cornerback in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Ohio. He's also rated as the No. 35 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.
Scott told On3 after he revealed his top five that he thinks Josh Heupel is building something special at Tennessee.
“Coach Heup, he’s been on me," said Scott. "I feel like they’re doing something special. They’ve been having very nice, consistent seasons. They’ve got DBs leaving, so I feel when I get there, I’ll have a great possibility to play right away."
Scott has taken multiple visits to Tennessee, but the Vols aren't necessarily the front-runners in this battle.
In fact, it sounds like Ohio State might be the team to beat for Scott — which isn't a surprise considering he lives just 45 minutes away from Columbus (On3's Spencer Holbrook predicted last month that Scott will land with the Buckeyes).
Scott says he's nearing a decision and he could commit after his official visits. That would indicate a late June/early July commitment.
The Vols could certainly use Scott, a player that could be a high-level cornerback at the next level, but they likely have some work to do to close the gap with Ohio State.
