Tennessee is one of the top 2 schools for a coveted 2027 4-star recruit, but he’s not the Vols’ top target

The Tennessee Vols are one of the top two programs for an elite 2027 recruit.
2027 four-star running back Tyson Robinson told On3 this week that Tennessee and Miami are his top two schools as he inches closer to a decision.
“I’ve been to Tennessee more than any other school and I love the staff and how they play,” said Robinson to On3 of his interest in the Vols. “I’ve probably been there 10 times so there’s a strong family vibe every time I’m there and it always feels like home. I love the offense and their playing style as well.
Texas A&M, Arizona State, and Michigan are also in the mix for the four-star running back.
Robinson, 5-foot-10/199 pounds from Brandon, MS, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 4 running back in the nation and the No. 3 player in state of Mississippi. He’s also rated as the No. 73 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.
Tyson Robinson isn’t the top target for Tennessee
Robinson has the Vols among his top schools, but that doesn’t mean he’s Tennessee’s top target.
While it’s clear that Tennessee likes Robinson, the Vols’ top 2027 running back target is easily five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, the No. 13 overall player in the nation.
“As good a position as you can be in at this point for a recruitment that is several months out from having a decision,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price last month of where the Vols stand for Gabriel Georges. “Tennessee and Ohio State — I know he lowered it to eight — but it’s really those top two teams. We’ll see if somebody else can get involved. It does not feel that way as of right now. It feels like those two teams are destined to battle it out until a decision is made sometime in the spring or summer.”
The Ohio State Buckeyes are Tennessee’s top competition for Gabriel Georges.
Robinson, meanwhile, is planning to commit in late June.
