The Tennessee Vols learned on Monday afternoon that they'll begin the season as a top 10 team in the USA Today AFCA Coaches poll.
The preseason top 25 poll was revealed on Monday at noon and Tennessee came in at No. 10.
A year ago, Tennessee was unranked in the preseason coaches poll (they received the 28th most votes a year ago).
Here's the entire top 10:
- Georgia
- Michigan
- Alabama
- Ohio State
- LSU
- USC
- Penn State
- Florida State
- Clemson
- Tennessee
While No. 10 is a fair ranking for the Vols, there's an argument to be made that they should be ranked above at least Clemson, if not several other teams (the early version of the 2023 Vols had their way with Clemson in the Orange Bowl).
Alabama, for example, seems to be getting the benefit of the doubt, despite losing superstar quarterback Bryce Young, because of Nick Saban's track record. It makes sense, but it's still a reminder that these preseason polls are deeply flawed and will likely look completely different by the end of September.
