A Tennessee Vols assistant was named this week as a potential option for an open Big 12 job.
USA Today pointed out Vols offensive coordinator Alex Golesh as an option to replace Karl Dorrell as the Colorado Buffaloes' head coach.
This would be a fun hire for a disastrous Buffs offense, and Alex Golesh is a newer name we’ve been hearing.
It's not a surprise to see Golesh's name popping up in coaching searches.
Golesh is extremely intelligent and he's had a big hand in the Vols' offensive success this season.
It might be Josh Heupel's offense at Tennessee, but Golesh has been an important part of the Vols' offensive success this season. He's heavily involved in game planning, adjusting the scheme, and calling plays (it's not 100 percent clear how Tennessee's play-calling duties are handled, but Golesh definitely has a hand in it).
Golesh is going to be a head coach at some point in the not-so-distant future. The biggest question is how soon does he want to be a head coach. And does he jump at the first job that's offered or is he selective? I think he really enjoys being at Tennessee, so it's certainly possible he'll wait on the right job.
I don't know if Colorado would be the right job for Golesh, but I'm sure it would be hard to turn down an offer from a Power-5 program.
