The Tennessee Vols' pursuit of their ultimate goal — bringing a College World Series championship to Knoxville — truly begins this weekend.

Tennessee will play their first game in the Knoxville regional, against Northern Kentucky, on Friday night in Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Vols will know by Monday, at the latest, if they're moving on to a Super Regional (which Tennessee will host if they advance this weekend).

While the Vols still have a long road ahead to reach their goal of being the last team standing in Omaha, the program has already accomplished a very rare feat this season.

According to Tennessee, the Vols are only the third program in Division 1 history to earn the No. 1 overall seed twice in a three year span.

Florida State (2002 and 2003) and Florida (2016 and 2018) are the other programs to previously accomplish the feat.

Florida advanced to the College World Series in 2016 and 2018, coming up short both times.

Florida State, meanwhile, didn't advance past the Super Regional in 2002 or 2003.

History hasn't been kind to No. 1 overall seeds — Miami in 1999 was the last No. 1 overall seed to win it all — but the Vols, of course, can't worry about history.

Tennessee has as good of a chance as anyone in the country to win it all in 2024. And the good news for the Vols is that there isn't a Paul Skenes/Dylan Crews combo (like last year at LSU) standing in the way this year.
