Tennessee Vols fans tuning in for the team's Super Regional matchup with Evansville this weekend now know who they will hear calling the action.  As it turns out, it's someone that a handful of Vol fans quibbled with on social media almost exactly two years ago.

Former MLB pitcher and ESPN college baseball commentator Gregg Olson will reportedly be on the call in Knoxville.  Olson and Tennessee fans had quite the Twitter battle back in June 2022.  Olson was among some of those criticizing former Vols outfielder Jordan Beck for a gesture he made rounding the bases.  Some Vol fans were quick to point out the hypocrisy of Olson's words.

Indeed, per the Baltimore Sun back in 1991, Olson was reported to have flipped off the television camera after losing a game to the Minnesota Twins, for which he issued an apology.  Accordingly, his tweet claiming he hadn't made such a gesture turned out to be untrue.

Sometimes it seems as though announcers have an agenda against a particular team or otherwise don't appear to be particularly objective in a game.  Olson might not; he could end up being perfectly objective and the issue is one that is water under the bridge for him.

But if not, then it's fair for Tennessee fans to wonder if there's some lingering animosity regarding getting called out and publicly contradicted by his own prior poor decision.

The Vols and Purple Aces get their series underway on Friday at 3:00 pm ET on ESPN2.
