It's not just Tennessee Vols coaches trying to bring elite talent to Rocky Top.
Players are doing their part, too. Specifically, quarterback Brian Maurer.
Rivals recently noted that Maurer, who is from Florida, is trying to help sway 2021 four-star defensive end Bryce Langston to Knoxville.
Maurer and Langston are from the same town (Ocala, FL) and hung out together during the Christmas holidays. According to Rivals, Maurer gave Langston a "strong recruiting pitch".
Langston,6-foot-3/241 lbs, committed to Florida a little over a year ago, but he decommitted from the Gators last May.
UF, however, is still perceived as the favorite to land Langston, who is rated by by 247Sports as the No. 1 weak side defensive end in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Florida.
Langston has yet to visit Tennessee, but Rivals mentioned he plans to make his way to UT in the spring.
This is definitely a player the Vols need to land. Langston has been described as 247Sports as a versatile pass rusher that has "disruptive reach" and an "explosive first step", which should make him an early round NFL draft selection.
Tennessee currently has four players committed to their 2021 recruiting class.
