Tennessee Vols: ESPN draft analyst gives candid thoughts on Jauan Jennings
Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jauan Jennings didn't impress many draft pundits with his lackluster 40 time at the combine. Jennings, who finished his UT career with 146 receptions for 2,153 yards and 18 touchdowns, ran a 4.72 in the 40 yard dash in February.
That's not exactly "NFL speed".
But if you've watched Jennings play, you know that what be brings to the field can't be quantified by typical metrics.
Jennings plays with more heart than almost any wide receiver I've ever seen. His ability to break tackles (which he led the nation in last year with 29) has little to do with how fast he runs at the combine. And it has everything to do with the toughness that Jennings exhibited on a weekly basis in the SEC.
ESPN draft analyst Jim Nagy, who is also the executive director of the Reese's Senior Bowl, is a fan of Jennings. And he believes that Jennings will outperform many of the wide receivers selected ahead of the former Vol in the 2020 NFL Draft.
ESPN currently has Jennings ranked as the No. 40 overall wide receiver, while CBS Sports has him ranked as the No. 20 overall wide receiver.
A recent mock draft from CBS Sports has Jennings going in the seventh round.
Someone is going to get a bargain by drafting Jennings. He might not be the fastest player on the field, but it's going to be incredibly difficult to find someone who plays harder than Jennings.
