The Tennessee Vols will likely be without an important player when they take on the Oklahoma Sooners in Knoxville on Wednesday night.

Vols forward JP Estrella is listed as “doubtful” for the matchup against the Sooners.

The redshirt sophomore forward is reportedly dealing with a lower body injury.

Not having JP Estrella available would be a tough blow for the Vols against the Sooners

Oklahoma hasn’t been very good this season — the Sooners are 13-12 with a 3-9 record in the SEC — so this is a game Tennessee should be able to win without Estrella on the floor (the Vols are a -10.5 favorite).

Still, not having Estrella, a key presence in the paint, would be a tough blow for the Vols. The Maine native is averaging 9.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

Ultimately, though, Estrella’s long-term health is what’s most important here. The Vols are going to need him healthy come tournament time — especially with Cade Phillips out for the season.

“We know how much he loves being a Tennessee Volunteer,” said Vols head coach Rick Barnes of Estrella last month. “He’s had some tough breaks in his career, but tonight (after a win against Alabama), all that hard work he put in could be the start of something really good for us. We believe in him, we really do.”

Tennessee and Oklahoma will tip off at 7:00 PM ET on Wednesday night in Thompson-Boling Arena.
