When Tennessee Vols running back Dylan Sampson saw the 2024 SEC schedule, which was fully revealed last week, he said it felt like a "wake-up call".

Sampson was recently interviewed by former Vols defensive back Todd Kelly Jr on the TPL Tennessee YouTube channel and he was asked about UT's road matchup against Oklahoma in 2024.

"We can look at this bowl game (Citrus Bowl) as a startup for the 2024 season," said Sampson. "Man, I looked at that schedule and it's exciting. Going to Oklahoma and playing teams we haven't played in a while. It's a wake-up call, too. Time to lock in, time to get ready once we come back in January after the bowl game. I surround myself with people who I know are going to tell me if I'm doing wrong. And it's up to me to make sure I'm not doing wrong."

"We gotta establish that standard," added Sampson. "And let people understand our standard quickly. We don't have time to mess around this offseason, [we] don't have time to play around, so we can get where we need to go."

There's no doubt that Sampson, who is expected to be Tennessee's lead running back in 2024, has an elite mindset. He knows the road to a championship starts in January for the Vols. And that's why Sampson is entering the offseason with a sense of urgency.

That's a mindset that the entire team will need to have starting next month if Tennessee is going to make some serious noise in the 12-team College Football Playoff next winter.
