The Tennessee Vols are squarely in the mix for the No. 2 player in the 2025 recruiting class.

And while it's still early in the process, it appears to be a three-team battle.

On3's Chad Simmons gave the latest on several recruiting battles and he noted that Clemson, Georgia, and Tennessee are the three programs "setting the pace" for 2025 five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr.

"Clemson is a strong contender and he has locked in an official visit to Death Valley the first weekend of June," wrote Simmons on Thursday. "Georgia is another one high on his list. Tennessee will have Sanders on campus early in the spring and he has a good relationship with quarterback commit George MacIntyre. That trio is setting the pace at this stage, but a list of schools remains in contention."

Sanders, 6-foot-6/270 lbs from Charlotte, NC, is rated as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 2 overall player in the nation.

The battle for Sanders is going to be intense. He's the type of player that every program in the nation would love to have (Ohio State is also recruiting him hard and could become a major factor).

Tennessee has an ace in the hole with five-star quarterback George MacIntyre already committed to the Vols. MacIntyre has a solid relationship with Sanders. And VolQuest's Brent Hubbs pointed out last month that MacIntyre is going to make it a priority to come to Knoxville anytime that Sanders visits.

"I think anytime David Sanders comes to campus, George MacIntyre's going to do everything he can to be here with him, to spend time with him," said Hubbs

There's a long way to go in this recruiting battle. But for now, it sounds like Tennessee has as good of a chance as anyone to land the highly-coveted five-star offensive lineman.
