The Tennessee Vols could be on the verge of stealing a key commit from Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks.

On3's Steve Wiltfong noted on Monday that Tennessee is "trending" for 2026 four-star linebacker Rodney Colton.

Colton has been committed to South Carolina since late April.

"Word is Tennessee is trending for Rodney Colton as well following two-straight weekends on campus," wrote Wiltfong

Colton, 6-foot-1/220 lbs from Newnan, GA, is rated by On3 as the No. 7 linebacker in the nation and the No. 12 player in the state of Georgia. He's also rated as the No. 95 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.

The talented four-star linebacker told 247Sports in September that he was "still solid" in his commitment to South Carolina. But it looks like that may no longer be the case with his interest in the Vols seemingly increasingly after back-to-back visits to Tennessee.

There's still a long way to go in this recruiting battle. Even if the Vols flip Colton, they'll still to fend off other programs. And any time a player flips his commitment, you have to be aware of the possibility of another flip.

Tennessee currently has three players committed to its 2026 recruiting class, including four-star offensive lineman Brandon Anderson, who committed to the Vols after the Alabama game this past weekend.
