The Tennessee Vols' future at the quarterback position is bright with redshirt freshman Jake Merklinger and true freshman George MacIntyre on the roster and 2026 five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon on the way.

But quarterback recruiting in the SEC never stops. And the Vols are already working to land a quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class.

According to 247Sports, 2027 three-star quarterback Derrick Baker is set to visit Tennessee on June 1.

Baker, 6-foot-2/220 lbs from Alpharetta, GA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 29 quarterback in the nation and the No. 48 player in the state of Georgia.

Alabama, Auburn, Miami, Notre Dame, Florida, Ohio State, and Mississippi State are some of the other programs showing early interest in Baker.

Baker recently participated in the Nashville Elite 11 Regional and received some positive reviews.

"Thick framed QB with some serious power and velocity behind his throws," noted 247Sports recruiting analyst Clint Brewster. "Consistently placed the ball in good spots all day and showed some touch as well. His arm slot isn't as flexible as others and he needs a solid platform to throw off but there's a lot to like in terms of accuracy and arm strength."

It's still very early in Baker's recruitment, but Tennessee is a program to keep an eye on as the Vols search for a quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class.
