247Sports reported on Monday that former Vols wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor will serve as Duke's interim head coach.
Texas A&M hired head coach Mike Elko away from Duke to replace Jimbo Fisher.
Taylor has been an assistant at Duke since 2019, serving as a wide receivers coach, cornerbacks coach, and running backs coach. He worked under former Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe from 2019 to 2021 (until Cutcliffe's retirement from Duke).
Taylor, who played college football at Baylor, was on staff at Tennessee from 2004 to 2007. He was among several offensive assistants that left UT after the 2007 season (David Cutcliffe left to become the head coach at Duke and took running backs coach Kurt Roper and offensive line coach Matt Luke with him). The 2008 season that followed the mass exodus was essentially the beginning of Tennessee's "decade of dysfunction".
