Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh is expected to meet with the Los Angeles Chargers this week about the franchise's head coaching job, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
It will be Harbaugh's second meeting with the Chargers.
Harbaugh is only a couple of weeks removed from leading Michigan to a win in the national championship against Washington.
Tennessee Vols fans should hope the Chargers go in another direction or that Harbaugh decides to stay at Michigan.
And it's because Harbaugh to the NFL, ultimately, helps Alabama.
Right now, Alabama is dealing with a mass exodus of players to the NCAA transfer portal. And they don't have many places they can look to replace those players (at least not until the second portal window, which opens in April….though that window isn't usually quite as active).
But if Harbaugh goes to the NFL, it will open up Michigan's roster. And there's a chance that LSU head coach Brian Kelly could be interested in the Michigan job (he's a better geographical and cultural fit at Michigan). If Kelly leaves for Michigan, that would open up LSU's roster, giving Alabama another potential pool of transfer players.
Also, if Kelly leaves for Michigan, who knows how far the domino effect will carry throughout the sport. Maybe Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin would be eyeing the LSU job. You never know.
For now, Alabama's at a disadvantage. And that's obviously good for Tennessee, which will face the Crimson Tide in Knoxville next fall in what's essentially a must-win game for the Vols.
Harbaugh leaving Michigan could completely erase that disadvantage.
