A former Tennessee Vols standout-turned-NFL-star will be a first-time candidate for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2024.
ESPN's Adam Schefter pointed out after the Hall of Fame ceremony in Canton on Saturday that former Vols defensive back Eric Berry will be eligible for next year's Hall of Fame class.
Berry, a first round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2010 NFL Draft, last played in the NFL in 2018.
Berry, who played at Tennessee from 2007 to 2009, only played five full seasons in the NFL during his career that spanned from 2010 to 2018.
In 2014, Berry was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. He returned to play full seasons in 2015 and 2016, but a torn Achilles in the first game of the 2017 season was the beginning of the end of Berry's NFL career.
Berry played just three games in 2018 (two regular season games and a playoff game) before retiring from the NFL.
The former Vol finished his NFL career as a five-time Pro Bowler.
