It seems that most of the bowl game projections that have been made for the Tennessee Vols ahead of the 2023 season have UT playing the Wisconsin Badgers in the Citrus Bowl.

On Monday, however, The Athletic revealed their 2023 bowl game projections and they have the Vols playing in a New Year's Six bowl game for the second straight season (Tennessee beat Clemson in the Orange Bowl last season).

The Athletic's bowl game projections have Tennessee playing the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Peach Bowl on December 30 at 12:00 PM ET.

Tennessee and Ohio State have previously played each other just one time.

The Vols beat the Buckeyes 20-14 on January 1, 1996 in the Citrus Bowl to put the finishing touches on the 1995 season.

One thing about that matchup that is remembered by fans is that Tennessee mostly shut down Ohio State running back Eddie George, that season's Heisman Trophy winner.

George rushed for just 89 yards in the Buckeyes' loss to the Vols, which led to chants of "Edd-ie" from UT fans that made the trip to Orlando for the bowl game (George rushed for 314 yards in a game against Illinois earlier that season).

A showdown between Tennessee and Ohio State in 2023 would certainly include plenty of hype. The Vols and the Buckeyes are two of the most prolific offensive squads in college football. A matchup between the two programs in the Peach Bowl would undoubtedly be an exciting affair.
