‘You can’t quit on a play’ – Giants WR Jalin Hyatt is hearing it from former players after bad rep during loss to Packers

Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt hasn’t seen much action this season for the New York Giants, so it seemed like a positive for the South Carolina native that he was targeted four times in the passing game on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
But unfortunately for Hyatt, his two receptions for 18 yards in the Giants’ 27-20 loss to the Packers isn’t what anyone will remember about his performance in Week 11.
Green Bay sealed the win when a pass from Giants quarterback Jameis Winston that was intended for Hyatt was intercepted in the end zone.
It appeared that Hyatt stopped his route, a sentiment that former NFL quarterback turned broadcaster Drew Brees seemed to agree with.
Former NFL RB Tiki Barber doesn’t hold back on Jalin Hyatt
Former Giants running back Tiki Barber, a three-time NFL Pro Bowler, didn’t hold back while discussing Hyatt on Sunday.
“Jalin Hyatt doesn’t play football like a wide receiver who wants to get the football,” said Barber. “And it’s his lack of urgency which is going to ultimately ruin his career. I mean, he’s already a bust for the New York Giants, but you can’t not run that route. The ball is going to come out. Jameis is five steps and the ball is coming out. There’s one thing we know about Jameis — he’s going to stand in the pocket and deliver the ball where it’s supposed to be.
“And the reason that looks so bad is because Jalin Hyatt wasn’t where he was supposed to be. Jameis Winston thought he would be there. And look, if it’s defended, it’s defended, but you can’t quit on a play. The ball is going to come there. You cannot stop running your route because you think the ball is not coming to you. And that’s what happened. Jalin Hyatt was running that corner route. He sees that deep corner[back] sinking, and in his mind, he says, ‘The ball’s not coming to me.’ But the good wide receivers don’t do that. A good wide receiver thinks the ball is coming to me every time. He didn’t do that, and it resulted in interception. It ultimately ended the game.”
Former Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer pointed out that Hyatt should’ve continued the route to at least break up the pass.
Toomer, however, also noted that Hyatt hasn’t played much football for the Giants, so it’s understandable that he wasn’t as sharp in his route running against the Packers.
Hyatt said after the game that he has to make that play in the future.
At this point, I think it’s fair to say that a fresh start is best for Hyatt. The former Vol clearly has talent, but he hasn’t been put in a position to succeed in New York for whatever reason. A fresh start could help Hyatt reach his ceiling as a player.
