Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel landed on a top 10 list this week that he hopes he won't be on after the 2025 college football season.
247Sports recently ranked the top 10 coaches in the sport that haven't won a national championship yet.
And Heupel, as expected, was included on their list — though Vols fans probably won't agree with where he's ranked.

From 247Sports: You could go in a variety of directions at No. 10 in this ranking. To be honest, there's probably not 10 different head coaches who will win their first national championship over the next 20 years, much less 10. That said, what Josh Heupel has done at Tennessee in short order has been notable, especially after getting the Vols to the playoff for the first time in 2024. It wasn't the most-talented team he's had in Knoxville, but it was a squad that played together and was more physical than most.

These types of rankings are incredibly subjective, so while I understand the argument that Heupel could/should be higher, I think there are probably solid arguments for every coach in 247Sports' top 10.
Really, this is essentially a tier of elite coaches that haven't broke through and won a natty quite yet. I think all of these coaches are similarly skilled/talented when it comes to leading a college football program.
Either way, Heupel will hope to remove himself from this list after the 2025 season, but that won't be an easy task — every other coach on this list has the exact same plan.
