A Tennessee Vols legend was named this week as a potential option for a vacant head coaching job.
Earlier this week, Jon Sumrall, a former defensive coordinator at Kentucky under Mark Stoops, left his job as the head coach at Troy to become the new head coach at Tulane.
The Athletic's Bruce Feldman named former Vols quarterback Tee Martin as a potential option for the head coaching vacancy at Troy.
Martin, who is from Mobile, AL (2.5 hours from Troy), is currently the Baltimore Ravens' quarterbacks coach.
From The Athletic: One wild card option to keep an eye on: Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Tee Martin, the former Tennessee great, could be in play. The Mobile native was a candidate at South Alabama a couple of years ago. The 45-year-old has deep ties in the region and was regarded as a terrific recruiter in a decade-plus at some big programs from Kentucky to USC to Tennessee, where he showed he really knew how to develop players. He’s in a good spot now in the NFL and might want to stay there as his coaching career continues to ascend.
Prior to his time in Baltimore, Martin spent two seasons as Tennessee's wide receivers coach. He's also served in the past as the wide receivers coach/offensive coordinator at USC, including two seasons under Lane Kiffin.
Martin led the Vols to their last national championship during the 1998 season and he spent parts of four seasons playing in the NFL. His first college coaching job came in 2009 as the quarterbacks coach at New Mexico.
