Tennessee Vols second baseman Christian Moore is expected to be selected in the top half of the 2024 MLB Draft on Sunday (July 14).

Moore saw his draft stock soar this spring/summer thanks to an monster 2024 season. The New York native slashed .375/.451/.797 with 34 home runs and 74 RBIs this past season (all career highs for Moore). He also struck out 18 fewer times in 2024 than he did in 2023 (despite playing nine more games in 2024).

The latest MLB mock draft from from The Athletic's Keith Law (one of the premier MLB draft experts) has Moore going to the Chicago Cubs with the No. 14 overall selection.

From The Athletic: Moore’s a big model darling now, as is his brother* Malcolm at Stanford (*note: they’re not actually brothers), and both seem high on the Cubs’ list based on what other scouts believe. I think the Cubs are a dark horse on Benge and Cijntje. They’ve taken players like Vance Honeycutt in the past, but never this high.

There's some concern that Moore could fall in the draft due to his defense. Moore was a second baseman at Tennessee, but many draft analysts believe he'll end up in left field if he reaches the big leagues. That's important because if a team views Moore as a future left fielder, it likely means they believe the power he showed at Tennessee will translate to the next level.

The 2024 MLB Draft will being at 7:00 PM ET on July 14 and will air on MLB Network.
