Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt had a run-in this past weekend with one of the biggest stars in the NFL.
Hyatt, a rookie wide receiver for the New York Giants, lined up last weekend against second-year cornerback Sauce Gardner and the New York Jets.
At one point during the game, Gardner made a great defensive play and broke up a pass that was intended for Hyatt.
Gardner, who reached the Pro Bowl as a rookie last season, started talking trash immediately after he deflected the pass away from Hyatt.
"Boy, you with the bigs," yelled Gardner before rattling off several other comments directed at Hyatt.
Here's the scene, which was captured by HBO's "Hard Knocks" (which is focused on the Jets this preseason).
Gardner definitely made a great play, which is to be expected — after all, he's one of the best defensive players in the league.
But earlier in the game, Hyatt blew past Gardner on a play that ended up being an incompletion.
Hyatt showed he can hold his own against a great player like Gardner on that play. Sure, it wasn't a completion. And it's just a preseason game. But there's no way Gardner wanted the visual of Hyatt blowing past him floating around on the internet. Hyatt simply beat him on that rep.
By the way, the Jets and the Giants play in the regular season on October 29. And thanks to the battle between Hyatt and Gardner that we saw last weekend, that'll be a must-watch game even for non-Giants/Jets fans.
